My Course

My course, Product Design, is my primary focus in this stage of my life. It takes place at the University of Huddersfield, where I spend my time working towards a BSc degree. In class I learn a wide variety of subjects that guides me through the entire design process. Not only do I learn about designing a product, but how to place it in the market, and who the market is! The course gives me the skills required to design manufacturable products in great detail, down to what material each individual part of a product needs to be.

The modules that take place on the course include, Innovation Detail Design and Specification Development, Professional Practice Awareness, Advanced Computing and Technology Studies, and Commercial Product Design.

Advanced Computing and Technology Studies:

Advanced Computing and Technolody teaches a wide variety of computer programmes used in the industry. It ranges from Photoshop and simple editing softwares, to Solidworks and all of the AutoDesk programmes. Since starting the course my 3D modelling skills have accelerated dramatically and has definitely become one of my favourite modules.

Commercial Product Design:

Commercial Product Design teaches the design process by working directly with companies from all around the world. The lessons teach how to design products based on what the company stands for, and who thier target market is. So far I have completed briefs for Sainsburys, Morrisons, Tesco, Kenwood, and Unileaver.

Innovation Detail Design and Specification Development:

This module teaches the process and issues of NPD and it's relationship to innovation. It also teaches the primary aspects of international standards and testing to give a greater knowledge of the manufacuring process, along with applying design decisions and specifications of the physical aspects of manufacture.

Professional Practice Awareness:

This module teaches the understanding of the responsibilities of a design practioner and how this will effect students in the professional world. Also teaches the principals of self-promotion and how to better an online, and in person appearance to employers.
